What we believe

WORSHIP

SPIRITUAL:  Therefore, we remain flexible and yielded to the Holy Spirit to direct our worship.

INSPIRATIONAL: Therefore, we give a great place to music in our worship.

INTELLIGENT: Therefore, our services are designed with great emphasis upon teaching of the Word of God that He might instruct us how He should be worshiped.

FRUITFUL: Therefore, we look for His Love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have truly been worshiping Him.

MISSION STATEMENT

Calvary Chapel Monrovia has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

- Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed into His image by the power of the Holy Spirit.

- We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only their over-emphasis of doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the body of Christ.

- We believe that the only true basis of Christian fellowship is His agape love, which is greater than any differences we possess and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians.

- Established as an outreach of Calvary Chapel La Mirada in 2005, Calvary Chapel Monrovia has committed itself over the years to serving the city of Monrovia and the surrounding foothill communities along the 210 Corridor.  The Lord has blessed this work over the years and we look forward to what He has in store for us for the future.

WE BELIEVE

…that there is one living and true GOD, eternally existing in three distinct persons:  The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in nature, power, and glory; that this triune God created all, upholds all, and governs all.

…that the Scriptures consisting of the Old and New Testaments are the word of God, fully inspired without error in the original manuscripts, and are the infallible rule of faith and practice.

…in GOD THE FATHER, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love; that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men; that He hears and answers prayer; and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.

…in JESUS CHRIST, God’s only begotten Son, fully God and fully human, conceived by the Holy Spirit; we believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teachings, His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, and perpetual intercession for His people.

…in the HOLY SPIRIT, who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, seal, and empower for ministry all who believe in Christ; we believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ and that He is an abiding Helper, Teacher, Comforter, and Guide.  We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and in the exercise of all Biblical gifts of the Spirit.

…that all people are sinners by nature and choice and, therefore, are under condemnation; that God imparts life by the Holy Spirit to those who repent of their sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord; and we believe that God raised Him from the dead on the third day after His crucifixion.  Salvation is by grace through faith alone, not by works.

…in the universal church, the living spiritual body, of which Christ is the Head and all regenerated persons are members.

…that the Lord Jesus Christ committed two ordinances to the Church--baptism and the Lord’s Supper.  We believe in baptism by immersion and communion open to all believers.

…that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are still in operation today and should be exercised within the guidelines found in the Scriptures, decently and in order, for God is not the author of confusion, but of peace; that they these gifts are distributed by the sovereign will of the Holy Spirit to whom He chooses.

…in the personal and visible bodily return of Christ to earth and the establishment of His Kingdom in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment and eternal blessing of the righteous, and endless suffering of the wicked in the Lake of Fire.

…in what is termed The Apostles Creed as embodying fundamental facts of the Christian faith.

Our Staff

Pastor Richard Schork

Senior Pastor

Pastor Richard had been the Worship Leader/Pastor at Calvary Chapel of La Mirada since 1998.  He has a passion for worship and desires to see God glorified in His Church.

In 2005, it was in his heart to see a new church started in the foothill communities of Arcadia, Duarte, Bradbury, and Monrovia.  On September 11, 2005, his dream became a reality when Calvary Solid Ground began its first Sunday service at Library Park in Monrovia.

In addition to his pastoral duties with Calvary Chapel Monrovia, Pastor Richard teaches a worship course at the Calvary Chapel La Mirada Bible Ministry School. He has also been a guest teacher at the Calvary Chapel International Worship Conference.   He also directly oversees the Worship and Children’s Ministries.

Richard and his wife Toni met in high school, were married in 1983, and have been leading worship together for many years. They have four children: Jenni, Jessica, Tyler, and Scott.

Pastor Allen Widdows

Assistant Pastor

Pastor Allen was born and raised in Pasadena, brought to church every Sunday by his grandmother, and went through the local Christian school system, attending both Pasadena Christian and Maranatha High School.  Though very knowledgeable in the Word because of his schooling, it was not until after he had graduated from the University of California at Riverside in 1986 with a degree in geophysics when he truly found the Lord.  Since that time, the Lord guided Allen out of the oil patch and into teaching, starting in 1987 and continuing on to today; he currently teaches Chemistry and Earth Science locally in Monrovia.  The Lord also blessed him with his best friend, wife, and helpmate, Aleacia in 1996 and four wonderful children, Wesley, Robbie, Emma—named in honor of his grandmother who had invested so much time and prayer on his behalf as a child and teenager—and their youngest, Amelia.

The Lord led Allen and his family to CC Monrovia in June 2006, after serving for eight years in the sound and media ministry at Calvary Chapel of the Foothills in La Cañada.  The Lord continued to use him in Monrovia in sound and media, and later teaching in the junior high ministry.  He was raised as an assisting pastor in 2014.  Currently, Allen administers the CCM Bible Ministry School and with Aleacia, oversees the Light in the Storm ministry, assisting those going through major trials in their lives, coordinates our home groups, and oversees the Prayer Ministry.

Steve Martinez

Assistant Pastor

Steve felt called by the Lord to join Calvary Chapel Monrovia in 2012. Steve graduated from Calvary Chapel Golden Springs Pastoral School in 2011. Prior to 2011, Steve was a student and later an instructor at Calvary Chapel Bible College, Diamond Bar campus.

Since joining CC Monrovia, Steve has served in the high school ministry, teaching weekly Bible studies. Steve is also serving in the One-Step drug & alcohol ministry to help keep men accountable to the Word of God. Steve attends local community events to serve and minister to local residents for the Lord.  Steve was raised up as an intern pastor in 2014 and as assistant pastor in 2017.

Steve currently works with people in the Duarte/Monrovia area who have significant barriers to employment and education. Steve has a Bachelor's degree from UCLA, is married to Brigitte and they enjoy spending time with their three children.
